Walk Description:-

Today’s walk is a new walk lead by our rambling friends Lynda & Deryck Fisher who leave the coast behind to take us on this lovely walk from Louvaras to Amirou Monastery Apsiou. This large stone built monastery dates back to the 16th century but was derelict for many years before being restored and opened again in 1997 as a convent, now hosting 7 nuns.

We will have a bus today so please see pick up times shown below. The bus drops us off at a picnic area where we have a short climb up to the beginning of the track.  The walk takes us through beautiful countryside with panoramic views in places.  The track has some ups and downs but, except for the last part of the walk, is mainly downhill.

We will stop for lunch about 2/3rds of the way down, where it is possible to see Amirou Monastery for the first time.  There are no natural seats so, depending on how many come, seating will be on the ground!  Please bring something to sit on.

During the last part of the walk, the monastery comes in and out of view.  The last part of the walk is a steady uphill climb.  At the top it will be possible to see where our bus is parked waiting for us.
